Subject:Tofu? Anyone?
Security:Public

So as a follow-up to my previous post from a few months back...I'm in Northampton! I arrived in the UK last Wednesday and moved into my new home (in Abington, which everyone keeps telling me is an AWESOME neighbourhood, but I haven't had much time to explore it) yesterday. It's definitely an adjustment period right now, and it's going to take a while for me to really feel at home here.

I have many, many questions that I'd like to ask, but the most important one is this: where can one find tofu around these parts? Or, really, any sort of meat substitute? I have searched in a number of grocery stores with no luck. I am quickly realizing that this town/country is not the most vegetarian-friendly place in the world. ;)

PLZ SEND HELP! You people were so helpful last time, I'm hoping someone will step in and give me some good news.

(Also, while you're at it, if you can suggest some good places to eat where I'd have options besides bread and cheese (which I love, but it gets old after a while) that would be lovely!)

Subject:Help, please!
Security:Public

Hello! I know this community hasn't really been used in close to two years now, but maybe someone will read this and be able to offer me some advice.

First, some information about me: I'm a 25 year old Canadian teacher. I live in Toronto and have never been to the UK (or anywhere in Europe, for that matter) before. I've been looking into teaching jobs in England for the past couple of months, having heard that there is a shortage of teachers over there (we have the exact opposite problem here at the moment). Last week, I was offered a job at a high school in Roade.

Now, I know that Roade is a very small community, and I've always been a city girl, but I figure this is all about new experiences and all that, so I think I'm willing to give it a try. I've been looking things up a bit online; I understand that Roade is quite close to both Milton Keynes and Northampton, and so I'm considering my options. Ideally, I would like to live in one of those two places, and then commute to work in Roade every day. But reading about a place you've never been to before can only tell you so much, and obviously, this is a big decision that I don't want to make without knowing exactly what I'm getting myself into. I'd really like to get a feel for things from some people who are actually familiar with the area.

So...is there anyone out there who is familiar with the area and can tell me a bit more about it? Mainly, I'd like to know about living expenses, what there is to do, how reliable public transportation is, and how long it takes to get to London and other major cities by train. Also, if by chance you are familiar with both Milton Keynes and Northampton and can sort of tell me how they differ, in terms of culture, lifestyle, and so on, you'd be immensely helpful in allowing me to figure out if one would be a better fit for me over the other.

I don't really have a whole lot of time to make the decision - I told the school I'd get back to them by tomorrow, or the next day at the latest! - and at this point, the only thing that's making me hesitate is the fact that it's in such a small community. (Besides that, everything else about the school seems great to me.) Like I said, I've always lived in large(ish) cities here in Canada, so I'm a little nervous about the prospect of working in a town as small as Roade, and living in either Milton Keynes or Northampton. I just don't want to be bored out of my mind, especially since I won't know anyone at all when I first move.

Any information, honest opinions, and words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Hi guys,

I wonder if you could recommend a competent psychologist based in Northampton / Northamptonshire / Bedford for an adult to help deal with his depression.

Yellow Pages are good, but hands-on experience is often better. So if you know someone who helped you with depression problems, whom you trust and regard as a good specialist could you please share this person's details with me.

It would be great if you could recommend someone who focuses on body-oriented therapy, including dance movement therapy.

If you are aware of a relevant website or a community I would also appreciate your giving this information to me.

Any comments will be screened.

Depending on where you are in and around Northampton and Daventry, the water's dodgy at the moment. We're being advised not to drink it without first having boiled it.

Any one know what the culture is like for tabletop role playing games in this area? I mean things like Dungeons and Dragons. I've never looked into it and now I'm pondering it, so thought I'd ask.

Am I right in thinking that the fireworks are going to be at the Rugby ground instead this year?

PLEASE REPOST

THE ATROCITY EXHIBIT need a full-time GUITARIST and BASSIST

(grindcore / death metal / doom / sludge)

We're looking for two skilled people to join us full-time on bass and guitar. We've got Liam Thracia filling in on bass but unfortunately we can't have him full-time.

We're after someone who ideally lives locally to Northamptonshire, has their own equipment and transport. Hopefully with gig experience and into a wide range of music, as we tend to jump about a bit style-wise. Most importantly someone who's willing to give us the time and effort needed to be in a dedicated band. We practise at Big Noise Studios on Sunday mornings, normally with hangovers but you get used to that.

All applicants considered, no time wasters please!

Reply to either our MySpace page - http://www.myspace.com/theatrocityexhibit - or e-mail thinginajar@gmail.com.

cheers!

I hope someone can help me because I am desperate...

I'm in Northampton right now and I bought two football jerseys for a couple of friends back home as a favor. The jerseys are Manchester United and Barcelona FC. Both jerseys should be customized with JTAG 6 and MOBY 5 respectively. I bought the jerseys from Sports World by the way, and the store wasn't offering customization of jerseys at the moment. I mean, they were doing customization but with plain block letters, not with the letters and numbers used by Manchester United and Barcelona FC. Where in Northampton can I find a store who can customize the jerseys I bought?

Also, where is the best place to watch the Rugby World Cup Final this Saturday?

I know this community is Primarily for posts about Northampton but there doesn't seem to be a community for other areas around Northamptonshire.

I hope to be moving to Rushden at the beginning of next month and I would like to be able to do my weekly shopping in town but with avoiding supermarkets. I would like to try and support the local shopkeepers by buying meat from a butcher a veng from a grocer etc. I had a very quick wander up the High Street yesterday and couldn't see any of these type of shops.

My question is this. Do any of these shops exist in Rushden and if so, where are they?

Does any one know of a place that sells air brushes and air compressors in the local 3 towns (Dav, Rugby, Northampton)?

I'm looking to pick one up and a local place seems the best place to go.

Does anyone know any local PA / sound engineers for hire? We had The Lodge booked for our gig tomorrow at The Racehorse but they've had to cancel due to illness. We're desperately needing someone else to fill in!

If anyone's got any contacts can you please let me know? We've already tried Pete & Lynette but they're booked up.

cheers!

Is there somewhere in Northampton that does this? Is there anywhere reasonably local perhaps? I don't really know much about it so I'm not even sure you can definately get it done at a tattoo place or something? Any information anyone could give me would be really appreciated! Thanks in advance.

I was looking at things to do in the town centre next week but I I can't seem to find any information on what's inside Sol central. So does any one know exactly what's inside? It's huge and seems so full of stuff.

Also is the muesum and art gallery worth checking out? I didn't even know we had them, are they large or anything?
